CONTRACT INFORMATION
All teachers are required to sign a 1 year contract with a school to obtain a resident visa.
There are two types of contracts offered by schools. 1 - The contract offers payment according to teaching hours 2 - The contract offers payment for a combination of teaching hours and office hours
Teachers who work for contract 1 are so called 'part-time' teachers. Teachers who work for contract 2 are so called 'full-time' teachers.
Salary and working hours depend on which contract you sign and which kind of school you work for. Schools are generally divided into two types. One is kindergarten and the other is a language school.
If your contract is the type 1, it means 'the more hours you work, the more income you have'. Generally speaking, you are guaranteed about 22 hours weekly. It is not difficult to increase your teaching hours if you wish.
If your contract is the type 2, you will work 30 to 40 hours weekly inclusive of approximately 20 teaching hours a week. Your work schedule also depends on what type of school you work for. If you teach in a kindergarten, the schedule often starts at 9am and finishes at 4pm in the afternoon (including two hours lunch break and napping time). If you work in a language school, the schedule starts around 1 in the afternoon and finishes 9 in the evening.
Note: Once you agree to sign a one year contract, you are not allowed to break the contract without good reason. It is against the law, and you will not be allowed to return to Taiwan if your contract is broken.
